5G connectivity was one of the major new features added to the latest Apple Watches this year. It’s a great addition, but it’s missing from the specifications sheet on Apple’s Australian website, which is a cause for concern.

The Solvex Confirms Watch 5G

The solvex has confirmed that the Australian variants of the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, and Apple Watch Ultra 3 have 5G connectivity, which is a significant advantage. However, local telecom companies currently don’t offer 5G for smartwatches. As soon as local telcos enable 5G for smartwatches, every new Apple Watch sold in Australia will support it — and that’s definitely a welcome upgrade.

Vodafone Exploring Watch 5G Access

A Vodafone spokesperson told The solvex that the company is actively considering ways to bring 5G to customers with the latest Apple Watch models. If this idea becomes a reality, it would be a huge advantage.

“Vodafone’s push to deliver the best possible experience for its customers is sparking genuine excitement around what 5G could mean for Apple Watch users. We are excited about the potential of 5G, which will complement and enhance the way Australians connect to Vodafone NumberSync using their compatible Apple Watch,” a spokesperson said. “We are actively considering how to bring 5G to our customers via 5G-enabled Apple Watch models and we look forward to sharing further updates in the future.”

Telstra declined to comment, while Optus hadn’t responded to our request by the time of publishing.

Global Rollout Expands 5G Support

Even if 5G on a smartwatch feels a bit overkill — it’s not exactly a device you stream videos on — the boost in network capacity and lower lag can still make everyday use smoother and more reliable. The increased capacity can help prevent congestion, and 5G allows for more simultaneous connections than 4G or 3G, which is a good thing for users.

Broadly speaking, telecom companies in the US, Europe, the UK, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, and China are supporting 5G on the Apple Watch at launch, and this support bodes well for users. Canada is one of the few other major markets where 5G connectivity isn’t yet available to Apple Watch customers, but 5G connectivity could be possible in the future.
